The brown belt is a hotbed of talent and promises electrifying contests at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships next week. One of the athletes to watch closely is Filipinho Assis, from Alliance Rio.
Filipinho appears to be one of the favorites in the middleweight division and intends to show the high degree of dangerousness of his Jiu-Jitsu. “Black Cat” was runner-up last year and wants to use that result as fuel to capture gold in this edition.
Filipinho spoke to Almada Fight Media directly from Alliance Rio, in Leblon, and commented on his preparations for the Brasileiro.
“My focus is on becoming champion. Training is intense, it’s crazy. But that’s it, it’s part of the process to get to the gold medal. This is the cycle, regardless of the result. I try to understand my mistakes because that’s what will set me apart from my opponents,” said the Alliance athlete.
Filipinho is a rare talent and leads the Alliance Rio competition team. He has a versatile style and becomes unstoppable when he manages to impose his game. The “Black Cat” doesn’t usually lose positions of dominance and is often lethal with his back chokes.

Extra motivation
He won his second European brown belt championship in recent months and is motivated to win another significant title this season.
“You can expect a lot of will in this Brasileiro. It’s my last year as a brown belt, so I’m going to go all out to win gold. It got away last year, but I’m looking for it again, with a lot of desire,” said the student of Thiago Travecks.
Filipinho secured double gold at the Rio Fall Open, with dominant performances in the middleweight and absolute. The Cantagalo prodigy analyzed his performance at the IBJJF event and said that he still needs to polish his game.
“The championship was good and there were some tough athletes in my category. I fought well and I’m trying to improve more and more. I managed to win a few by submission, but I wanted to finish everyone. I’m going to try to improve my performance and increase the pace,” said the carioca.
The feeling of being champion is indescribable, especially the process leading up to the gold. That’s why Felipinho will spare no effort to reach the top of the podium at the Brasileiro.
“Since I was a purple belt, I’ve been in all the finals of the Brasileiro, so this motivates me more and more. The gold medal is the most important, the feeling of being champion is different. It’s seeing that all the hard work has paid off. Only God and the hard-working athletes know that feeling,” concluded the Alliance Rio star.
